The guest, who is named Tiffany Lee Ingalls and goes by the username @authentiffany_ on TikTok, shared her experience from the ‘over the top’ Airbnb online, and it quickly caused an uproar on the internet.

It contained a list of rules like: no smoking and quiet hours between 10 P.M. and 10 A.M., as well as directions on where the light switch was in the room and how the check-out process worked.

There were also little, laminated signs hung in almost ever corner of the rooms, with reminders like: ‘No open flames, no exceptions. No candles, incense, matches, etc.,’ and, ‘Spill something? Break something? Stain something? Say something. If not, I will reduct ratings on Airbnb.’

She opened up about her experience on TikTok and the debacle caused quite the stir online. The video quickly went viral, gaining more than a million views in a matter of days.

‘My most recent Airbnb host had a few controlling quirks,’ Tiffany began in the video.

‘To start, before you even walk in you get hit with a huge information guide on what to do.

‘Next is the amount of information that’s given just every moment after that, in every way possible in every part of the room.

‘But my favorite of all the information pieces is this one, where she draws a picture of the remote control and teaches you how to use each button,’ she said, as she showed viewers the drawing.

It turns out, Tiffany was reprimanded by the Airbnb host when she used the ‘wrong cup’ to get some water.

According to the Airbnb host, whose name has not been revealed, the glass the Tiffany drank from was actually meant to hold her toothbrush, and a smaller glass that was placed next to it was the one she was supposed to use for drinks.

After she noticed the mishap, the Airbnb host told her that she put was going to put labels on the cups so that the next guest wouldn’t make the ‘significant error.’

Tiffany added: ‘So glad I was able to help so that nobody had to face this struggle again.’

The TikToker continued in the video: ‘Another good one – you weren’t allowed to move the shower curtain from left to right, it had to be right to left. I hope I slept here correctly.’

After going viral, she posted another clip and shared some more details on the Airbnb.

She explained that she booked it pretty last minute but did read some reviews beforehand, and that they all seemed pretty positive.

‘This was a pretty last-second grab, I usually don’t book things last minute like this, I’m the type of person that likes to look through the reviews and see how things are,’ she said.

‘I did look through the first few reviews and it seemed fine, people did say on there that she’s very detail-oriented but I’m a pretty laid back person so I don’t really mind that.’

According to Tiffany, the rental was just a room in the woman’s house, who was there during her stay.

‘Not all Airbnb’s are renting out [an entire] house, you’re renting out a room sometimes in a shared space,’ she explained.

‘I like that, personally, when I’m visiting an area, I like to stay in someone else’s home because they know the area really well and they have all the inside scoop.

‘They can tell me their favorite restaurant, hiking spot, they can tell me all the places that tourists wouldn’t go to and people who have been there a while love. Those are the best places.

‘Anyways, this was a room in her house, so she physically saw me using that cup.’

And although she was ‘stressed out’ by all of her rules, she said she found the situation ‘funny,’ and wanted to share it with the world.

‘I wasn’t so stressed out that I thought I needed to leave or that I wasn’t going to be able to figure it out,’ she added.

‘I pivoted in the situation, I recognized that she’s just that type of person and that works for her and she’s very efficient in that way.

‘My anxiety just doesn’t work well with it, but it wasn’t something I couldn’t handle. People are the way that they are and we don’t all work together well which is fine, but there’s nothing wrong with her being that way.’

People quickly took to the comment section to discuss the ordeal, with some defending the Airbnb host and others slamming her ‘over the top’ and ‘extreme’ rules.

‘Why would you rent out your home when you clearly don’t want any living to happen [in] your home? one person asked.

Another added: ‘I don’t do Airbnb anymore because I’ve realized a lot of owners are too emotionally attached to their property, they forget you’re paying them and it’s not a favor.’

‘I think this person clearly is not suited for being a host,’ someone else said.

‘They really don’t want no texts while y’all stay so they covered everything in the room with directions. I’m here for it,’ one viewer wrote.

A fifth commenter said that they would actually appreciate the instructions. Another person added: ‘I appreciate when they give me a book on how to work the TV or HVAC or kitchen appliances, but this is extreme.’

‘I prefer hotels,’ someone else said. ‘I am not responsible for cleaning up and no crazy rules like this.’

‘Say you have OCD without saying you have OCD,’ one person joked.

Some viewers even branded the host as ‘neurotic’ and a ‘control freak,’ with one person writing: ‘It’s almost like this host is way too neurotic to have strangers in their home.’

‘Maybe let’s not lend out our space if we’re control freaks,’ another comment read.
