Back to the drawing board! Social media users share snaps of hilarious – and dangerous – building fails that wouldn’t pass health and safety
- Bored Panda’s latest online gallery features the very best construction fails
- In many cases, the building works were jaw-dropping and highly dangerous
- Others showed contempt for historical gems, with pipework over ornate decor
- Many fails were down to a mix of cost-cutting and a lack of comment sense
Everyone knows that building work rarely goes to plan. But – as these hilarious photos show – some constructions can be worse than others.
A new gallery compiled by Bored Panda features snaps people have shared of disastrous building and renovation projects from around the world.
From taps the wrong way around, to stonework held together by foam and whole houses dropped upside down, some contractors show a reckless attitude towards building safety.
While others think nothing of desecrating historical architectural gems with pipes fitted over intricate plasterwork.
Several homeowners also shared pics of new walls about to crumble and stair cases that should only be attempted by the not faint of heart.
As far as building fails goes, this has to be the winner – the whole house was delivered and placed upside down for an interesting take on the world
Best be sober at all times to manage these stairs: the door opens onto them with a drop of several feet
Hand rails can be helpful for those who struggle to stand after sitting, but this one seems bizarrely placed, meaning the toilet lid can never be closed
Perhaps the person who installed these sinks had had a beer or two – otherwise what is the reason for their mysterious placement
Many would have appreciated the intricate and detailed plasterwork of this building. But clearly not the builders, who laid these cables on the outside of the wall
It was architect Richard Rogers who pioneered placing staircases on the exterior of buildings – but it’s doubtful he meant like this
Attempting to blend thermostats and heating controls into the wall can be a good idea, but this plasterer seemed to take matters a bit too far
It must have taken some skill and effort from the builders to construct a staircase this fragile and dangerous
First law of construction: Make your walls straight. But clearly no one told this builder. Or perhaps they were too busy looking at the view to care
No one ever bothers looking up, right? Perhaps that’s what this builder thought when they constructed this pipe in this way… cutting corners literally
Wonky floors, loose wood, haphazard piping – it’s tricky to know where to start with this construction mess
Another set of rickety stairs to make you feel queasy – these ones made out of flimsy pieces of wood
Is this pole a valuable piece of structural support or merely something to dance around? With a bend like this, who knows…
Who needs solid foundations? This appears to be a crane lift atop of a pool float? Genius or madness – you decide
Everything is better with a friend, right? Even going to the toilet…. But would you really want to try this out?
Don’t you love it when a plan doesn’t come together? Here, several roof trusses that were anchored together fell down in one go like dominoes
Eye-sore? Why have a straight fence when you can have one at many different heights? This homeowner clearly had fun with their saw
Getting down to the nuts and bolts: This contractor definitely missed the point of structural safety
Parkour anyone? These yellow rings are meant to be used for people to climb down into this pipe – but clearly whoever laid them wanted to set their users a challenge
Whoever designed and built these stairs clearly didn’t factor in the right-sized railings to go with them…
This fine building work was spotted in Florida, with some Bored Panda users commentating that all walls in Florida look like this
Well, it fits – which is perhaps the only positive thing that can be said about this DIY cooker installation
Everyone needs a door half way up a wall right? At least whoever installed it had the sense to block it off so no one died
