At the start of the video, the driver’s friend appears to be going back to his car when the pedestrian, dressed in a white t-shirt and blue jogging bottoms, makes a lewd gesture.

The pedestrian then returns and seems to spit on the two men as they square up to one another.

The passenger dramatically attempts to kick the pedestrian, while the driver of the Mercedes tries to diffuse the situation.

The pedestrian throws a punch at the driver, before wrenching off the Mercedes’ windscreen wiper and brandishing it like a weapon.

Another man, seemingly a friend of the pedestrian, joins in. As he does so, the driver appears to pull out a hammer from the boot of his car.

When he returns, the pedestrian whips the driver with his own windscreen wiper.

But he is soon held tightly and restrained by his friend, while the driver puts his hammer back into the car and drives away.

The man in the tracksuit bottoms later took the binbag full of clothes seen strewn across the road to a nearby laundrette.

A young woman who saw the fight unfold said: ‘I heard a commotion outside, which isn’t unusual for the area but it went on for a long time so I went to look. There was a man fighting two guys in a car.

‘All the traffic had stopped, he ripped the windscreen wiper off the back of the car and then a guy got a hammer out – it was very dramatic.

‘When he ripped the windscreen wiper off I thought “now it has gone a step further”, and I was wondering if anyone had called the police.

‘It was worse when the guy got the hammer out of his boot.

‘Before that it was typical road rage in London but when the hammer came out I was a bit concerned.

‘The guy in the blue trackies had a bin bag full of clothes. I didn’t see how it ended up on the road but it was all over it.

‘I spotted him about 20 minutes later in the laundrette two shops down just doing his washing.

‘A stranger or a friend helped him pack his clothes back into his bag then he just carried on with his day.’
