Shocking moment boy racer tries to outrun police by hurtling down pavement before trying to shunt car out of the way and then making his escape on foot

  • The suspect drove along the pavement in West Yorkshire trying to outrun police
  • He was forced to flee on foot after reaching a car parked partly on the kerbside
  • 24-year-old was charged with failing to stop for police, driving without a licence

Video shows the hair-raising moment a racer being chased by police drove along the pavement in the tiny gap between a line of parked cars and a brick wall.

The small hatchback is seen streaking along the footpath, setting off multiple car alarms as he scrapes past the row of parked cars.

He might have given cops the slip – but as he reached the street corner he found another hatchback parked partly on the kerbside, blocking his escape.

The fleeing driver is then seen shunting the parked vehicle out the way, badly damaging both it and his own ride.

The two cars had ended up wedged together, forcing the fugitive to hop out and try to escape on foot.

But seconds later the police car comes around the corner in hot pursuit and he is caught.

The astonishing footage was captured around 4pm on Sunday at the corner of Heath Terrace and Gladstone Street in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

A babble of voices can be heard in the background but what people are saying cannot be heard above the car alarms and police sirens.

West Yorkshire Police said: ‘A 24-year-old man has been charged with failing to stop for police and driving without a licence.

‘He was bailed to appear at Bradford magistrates of March 8.’
