Monster inferno rips through industrial site in Bridgend: Emergency services rush to tackle enormous fire as locals report hearing ‘explosions’

  • A huge inferno has broken out on an industrial estate in Bridgend, Wales

A massive inferno has broken out on a Welsh industrial estate, with emergency services rushing to tackle the enormous fire.

The fire has torn through Bridgend Industrial Estate in Coychurch, south Wales.

Ten fire engines are fighting the blaze. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it received a call at 8.22pm about the fire.

Aerial platforms and specialist officers are also at the scene.

The fire reportedly started at Formaction Limited on Kingsway, an industrial site development company.

Locals in the area reported hearing ‘loads of explosions’.

Former Bridgend mayor Freya Sykes said: ‘Please avoid the area and let South Wales and Fire and Rescue do their job. I sincerely hope no one has been hurt in anyway, but there was an explosion.’

In the caption to a video in which explosions can be heard, she added: ‘It appears to be spreading. I presume more buildings have gone up.

‘I just really hope no one is hurt but I’m really worried about our emergency crews tonight dealing with this. Those bangs are explosions on the estate.’

Beth Edwards, who lives nearby, said: ‘Not a good night in Bridgend. This fire is really serious.’

An ambulance driver from Wales who drove past the fire wrote online: ‘I felt the heat as I passed and could still see the smoke and glow from the flames when I got home.’

The blaze, which is still burning, can reportedly be seen from as far as 15 miles away.

This is the latest in a string of fires in the south of Wales in the past month.

One person was killed in an explosion and fire at a gym and industrial unit in Treforest.

Just four days ago a nursery burnt down in another fire at an industrial estate in Newport.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.

South Wales Police said they had no details of the fire yet but advised people to avoid the area.

This is a breaking news story. More to follow.
