I boasted to my work and family that I’d won £1million lottery jackpot but I only got 20p after stupid code error

A TIKTOKER has revealed the hilarious moment she bragged to family, friends and colleagues about scooping £1million on the lottery – only to realise it was actually 20p.

The not-so-lucky woman woke up in the morning to a message saying she had won the mammoth jackpot.

Posting on social media, the lottery player, from Northern Ireland, said she bought herself a lucky dip and thought nothing of it until she woke up the next day to a message on her phone.

The woman, who goes by the username @weezyhayes, said: “I woke up and checked my phone, I had an email from the national lottery saying ‘you’ve won a prize’.

“I thought, happy days, this is great I’ve probably won a fiver or something.”

But she was gobsmacked to find that the email told her she had won a life-changing £1million.

The exact message read: “UK Millionaire Maker, one prize of £1million, click here for how to claim your prize.”

After assuming that she had just become a millionaire, she immediately woke up her partner Chris.

She continued: “I said ‘Chris, Chris get up look at my phone, Chris I think I’ve one a million quid’.”

Chris agreed and she clicked on the link to figure out how to obtain the giant sum – only to discover she would have to wait a nail-biting three hours until Lotto offices opened at 8am.

I was a millionaire for months without knowing – I missed crucial email and called cops as I was convinced it was a scam

She continued: “I texted the family group chat ‘phone me as soon as you see this I think I have one a million pounds.'”

She then phoned her brother and mum, but said neither sounded very impressed with her winning news.

She said: “I may as well of told him I had won a free sanitary towel.

“My mum’s reaction was about the same – she said to give her a ring when it’s confirmed.

“I got in my car to go to work and called my best friend Jack because I knew he would be up at that time.

“Jack and I are going through what I’m going to do with this money.”

Believing she was about to become a millionaire, her plan was to cut down her hours at work to 30 hours per week, “do up” her kitchen and save £900,000 for the future.

After getting to work her colleagues noticed she was acting different to her usual self and kept asking her if she was ok.

She said: “I was like no, I think I’ve won a million pounds but I have to wait until 8am to phone them and check.”

What is the UK Millionaire Maker?

The UK Millionaire Maker guarantees multiple winners with every draw and ticket holders have claimed seven-figure goldmines since it’s inception in 2016.

The EuroMillions explains on its website: “You are automatically entered into the Millionaire Maker draw when you play the UK version of EuroMillions.

“It is a raffle which guarantees that at least one lucky player will win £1 million in every draw.

“There are also regular promotional draws when multiple ticket holders become millionaires on the same night.”

And, on that phone call, she was told that her winnings were just a pinch less than what she had first thought.

She said: “I phoned the offices at 8am and they went through all my ticket information, did a bunch of checks and confirmed I had won a prize.

“‘You’ve won £2.70’ they said, the ticket was £2.50, I made 20p.

“Turns out this UK Millionaire Maker thing appears on everyone’s screen and below it there’s a code and you have to check against your numbers.

“I didn’t know this information, I am purple haired but I may as well be blond.”

Finally she walked back into work and everyone was asking her if she had won.

Which is when she hilariously had to reveal that she had won just 20p.

She said: “All these other nurses start wetting themselves laughing and they made me call my boyfriend on speaker and say ‘Chris I have not won one million, I’ve won 20p”

Seeing the funny side of it – she said that at least knew what it felt like to be a millionaire for a few hours, adding: “But do you know, for three whole hours of my life I thought I was a millionaire, nobody can take that away from me.”

She’s not the only disappointed lotto player either, players all over the UK have had false wins that they hoped would free them from ever having to work again.

One couple thought they had banked an incredible £182million – only to be told a payment issue meant they could not claim the prize.

And, a silly oversight meant these winners lost out on over £30million.

But perhaps it’s a good thing as some say winning a jackpot ruined their life.
