James Middleton gives a rare insight into fatherhood as he jokes about what it’s like to be woken up at 4am by new baby Inigo

James Middleton has shared a sweet selfie of his family while joking about being woken up at 4am in a rare comment about parenting.

The 36-year-old brother of the Princess of Wales, 42, became a father last year, after he and wife Alizée welcomed son Inigo in October.

Father-of-one James took to Instagram to share the photo and comment in his stories.

The photo shared by the new father showed a dog resting his face on his paws. It was accompanied by the caption: ‘My face when I’ve been woken up by the 6 month old at 4 in the morning.’

Followers of the couple, who tied the knot in the Côte d’Azur village of Bormes-les-Mimosas in September 2021 and also share five dogs, commented on the post, according to Tatler.

One wrote: ‘This is just the beginning of many sleepless nights and early mornings. Once a parent you really can’t have a sound sleep.’

Another added: ‘Nap time only a few hours away! Enjoy your little one, some coffee and the sweet dogs!’

It comes as James’ sister Kate Middleton is currently battling cancer. Kate announced that she is undergoing a course of preventative chemotherapy following successful abdominal surgery in January.

James, took to Instagram to share a childhood photo with the Princess on a hiking trip, saying: ‘Over the years, we have climbed many mountains together. As a family, we will climb this one with you too.’

Responding to the post, royal fans noted how James’ family had previously helped him in the past during his battle with mental health.

‘This is so sweet. She was there with you during your mental health struggles & I am sure that you will be by her side through this too,’ one wrote. ‘You both are so strong & you have the support of so many around the world. We love you!’

‘Aww what a lovely post.. she has such a supportive family! I have no doubts our beloved Princess will go through this and will be cancer free soon,’ another royal fan added.

‘What a beautiful post,’ said a third. ‘Catherine is so lucky to have such an amazing family to support her. Sending so much love to the entire family.’

James has previously spoken about how Kate, alongside his parents and sister Pippa rallied round to help him overcome clinical depression.

‘I was very lucky that they were willing to be involved and understood that it’s a process, there’s no quick fix to it,’ he said.

‘And understanding the way that my mind works, which may differ from theirs or other people’s is a really important part, because it was was a process for me as much as it was a process for them, and I think as a family we grew from that.’

Now it is Kate’s turn to lean on the Middleton family for support, and her parents Carole, 69, and Michael, 74, appear to have been eagerly on-hand.

The couple, along with Kate’s siblings Pippa Matthews and James, have been supporting the royal’s recovery at her home in Windsor, which is near to their own homes.
