The world’s fastest cars of 2024 including ‘evil spirit’ drag racer & outrageous 300mph supercar

THE world’s fastest cars in 2024 have been revealed, with an outrageous 300mph and an “evil spirit” drag racer.

Experts from Ideal compiled the list, broken down into four categories, to determine the ultimate speed machine.

The world’s fastest cars for 2024 have been revealed

The criteria were: the fastest from 0-60mph, the highest top speed, the fastest over a quarter mile drag and the fastest around Germany’s infamous Nurburgring track.

Fastest 0-60mph: Dodge Demon 170

The specialists were left amazed that Dodge had been able to create a road legal car that’s this quick.

The “evil spirit” that is the Demon 170 blitzed to 60mph in just 1.66 seconds in 2023 with the help of a souped-up V8 engine.

For reference, the record stood at 2.4 second just a decade ago.

Perhaps surprisingly, the runner-up was an EV as the Rimac Nevera was just pipped to the post with a time of 1.74 seconds.

Other electric cars that managed “mind-bending” acceleration include the Tesla Model S Plaid at 1.99 seconds and the Lucid Air Sapphire at 1.89 seconds.

Fastest 1/4 mile: Pininfarina Battista

While the Dodge blitzes the 0-60 ranks, it hasn’t got a sniff against the Battista over a 1/4 mile drag race.

Named for Battista Farina, who founded the iconic automotive design company that boasts his moniker, the hyper-powerful EV scorches the distance in just 8.55 seconds.

Again the Nevera was in close contention at 8.58 seconds, while the Demon was almost half a second slower at 8.91.

Fastest around the Nurburgring: Mercedes AMG One

The Nurburgring is widely regarded as the “ultimate test” of a motor’s overall performance.

The 17.5-mile track boasts over 150 turns and pushes cars to the limit across handling, acceleration, speed and braking power.

The lap record for a production model is currently held by the Mercedes AMG One, a hybrid monster featuring four electric motors and an F1-inspired V6 petrol engine.

It blitzed the previous record to record a lap time of six minutes and 35.183 seconds, earning the title “king of the Ring”.

For reference a VW Golf GTI only managed eight minutes 55 seconds.

Honourable mention goes to the Ford Transit van that the late racing legend Sabine Schmitz hauled around the track in 10 minutes 0.8 seconds as part of a bet with Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson.

Highest top speed: Bugatti Chiron Sport

As a brand, Bugatti made its name in the modern era for building sensationally fast hypercars for the road.

The Veyron was the fastest production car in the world when it came out, with a top speed of 267.8mph.

The title was taken away by the Hennessey Venom GT which was recorded at 270mph, before that in turn lost out to the 277mph Koenigsegg Agera.

The loss clearly hurt Bugatti as the brand came back with the Chiron Sport, which hit a frankly insane 301mph to reclaim the crown.

However, it may not last long as Hennessey hopes to reclaim the top spot with the Venom F5 which, according to its engineers, can hit 311mph.
