I’m tired of dumb makeup hacks – my mascara trick actually works and cuts down on clumps, another tip gets fuller lips

ONE beauty lover set out to prove that not all makeup hacks are created equal.

She was sticking to her own eye-popping tips and decided to share all of that glam goodness.

“We’re all tired of the usually dumb makeup hacks shared everywhere, but there are actually great ones out there!” said Redditor Waveitdowninside.

She was now batting her lashes better by heating up her mascara tube.

“Makes it easier to apply, and even helps reduce clumps,” she said.

If you find yourself dreaming of a Kylie Jenner pout but don’t want to undergo the surgery, her lip tip may help.

“Apply lip product first as an “X” on the lip line of Your Cupid’s Bow, then finish the whole lip line first – fuller lips and more defined shape,” she said.

To reduce oily skin, she recommended applying loose powder before primer.

This technique is also known as the Goss Method, inspired by makeup artist and YouTube superstar Wayne Goss.

And that wasn’t the only piece of advice she got from the beauty guru.

She explained the benefits of wrapping a wedge sponge in a single ply of facial tissue before “bouncing” the flat edge on your face after applying base makeup.

“Helps reduce oil, absorbs any excess product residue, allows for smoother application of blush, bronzer, highlighter, etc,” she said.

She also set out to prove that setting spray is not just for your face – it’s also ideal for use on eye brushes before you use them to pick up any product.

Don’t worry, there was a method to her makeup madness.

“More vivid colors and eyeshadow is easier to work with, eyeshadow stays on longer,” she said.

Elf sells a Power Grip Dewy Setting Spray for $10 that offers extreme “grip.”

And that means all the more eye makeup it can pick up.

For a “cleaner” application, she suggested using your pinky finger as an anchor when doing your makeup.

This is great for those who hands tend to shake while giving themselves a makeover.

And that wasn’t the only trick she claimed elevated her look.

She also submerged hardened pomades in hot water, especially her Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow, which she said “feels good as new.”

“You may have to do this multiple times to really heat the product, but way better than microwaving,” she said.

To best clean your brushes when changing colors without having to “completely soak” the brush, she explained how micellar water works wonders.

And her cosmetic commandments didn’t end there.

“Concealer that’s a shade or half a shade darker than your skin for spot concealing creates a nice shadow effect so it’s even less noticeable,” she said.

Lastly, don’t forget that your products can have multiple makeup uses.

“Eyeshadow as highlighter, blush as eyeshadow, eyebrow pencil as eyeliner, etc.,” she said.

  • Keep your skin hydrated internally by drinking water and externally with moisturizer.
  • Always use sunscreen, even if you’re not in direct sunlight.
  • Use Vitamin C to brighten the skin and don’t forget to apply to your neck.

Others had their own makeup tricks to share.

“Layering cream blush with powder blush. It gives me that transparent wet look,” wrote one user.

“I apply the cream blush directly on the apples of my cheek, then I apply powder blush lightly on top and slowly build up the intensity while extending it diagonally up my cheekbones for a slight slimming effect,” they added.

“Eyeshadow foiling! Or what you described above as getting your brush damp with setting spray, then dipping it into your palette. Though I use regular water, haha,” wrote another Redditor.

“The wrapping your finger in tissue and poking it in your mouth to get the excess lipstick off does work, same as getting a one-ply facial tissue sheet and placing it over your lipstick and then dusting.”
