This is the shocking moment a BMW driver crashes into a bike stand, wrecking their £82,000 motor in the process after the wheel is ripped off, before allegedly fleeing the scene.

The incident apparently happened on Thursday on the bustling east London street of Stoke Newington road, in Dalston, with eyewitnesses online claiming there ‘could have been multiple fatalities.’

Pictures posted on social media after the crash show a green BMW M4, which has a top speed of 155mph and can do 0-60 in under 3.5 seconds, abandoned by the side of the street with the bonnet damaged and the left rear wheel missing.

Bizarrely, the sportscar is seemingly suspended in mid-air as it is precariously balancing on the missing wheel.

The mangled wreck of several bikes chained up to the bike stand are also trapped under the car.

A video of the crash posted to TikTok, shows large crowds of onlookers can be seen surrounding the abandoned wreck.

An eyewitness who supposedly saw the crash, Harry Gray, wrote on X: ‘More road violence today in London The driver fled the scene Without the cycling stands this could have been multiple fatalities.’

Reacting to the smash, some social media users saw the funnier side of the bizarre crash. One X user said: ‘Love the color, nice green! But parking job could have been better.’

Another said: ‘Pavement parking is definitely a real problem.’

TikTok user Issy said: ‘Love how the wheel came off and coincidentally kept the car from falling back down looks like art work.’

MailOnline has approached the Metropolitan Police for a comment.
