DANNY MULLINS has hit back at cousin Patrick after their shocking bust-up – and the latter has been referred to officials over his post-race comments.

Patrick, son of top trainer Willie, was shown on TV pointing his finger at Danny as they pulled their horses up at the end of a race in Limerick.

Patrick had just won the Grade 1 Guinness Faugheen Novice Chase on 4-7 fav Gaelic Warrior.

But he was furious with Danny over an incident two fences from home when Danny looked to try to cut down Patrick’s inside.

Gaelic Warrior has a tendency to jump right – so Patrick was trying to keep enough room in case that happened.

He claimed he told Danny not to go down his inside – and hit the roof when his rival did just that.

Patrick said: “I was trying to get a breather into my horse.

“I told Danny there will be a gap down my inner coming to the second last – do not come for it.

“He hasn’t listened to me and luckily he hasn’t got the two of us beaten. It didn’t matter.”

While Tote ambassador Danny, who was on runner-up Il Etait Temps, said: “It’s one of those things – I’m always going to ride to win the race.

“I had a go and unfortunately I finished second – we had a go, that was the main thing.”

However, stewards took a dim view of the situation and it has now been passed onto a senior official.

The IHRB stewards’ report read: “The Raceday Stewards interviewed Mr. P.W. Mullins, rider of Gaelic Warrior, and D.E. Mullins, rider of Il Etait Temps, regarding comments made to the media about an incident on the run to the second last.

“Mr. P.W. Mullins stated that he had advised D.E. Mullins during a conversation prior to the race that he would be leaving a gap down the inner to get a breather into his horse and he advised him not to go for it.

“D.E. Mullins confirmed the conversation happened as such.

“Having considered all the evidence, the Raceday Stewards referred the matter on the a Senior Racing Official.”

Willie, who was at Leopardstown to see Galopin Des Champs win the Savills Chase, said he saw the whole thing and joked that it looked like the to ‘wanted to kill each other’.
