FROM fishnets and leg warmers to blazers with shoulder pads, the 80’s brought a whole range of icon fashion pieces.
But it seems that the return of one classic throwback has caused quite the stir online – after shoppers spotted it being sold in Primark.
In the clip posted to TikTok (@mrsbee_x_x), one eagle-eyed shopper zooms her camera at Primark‘s window display.
There, a mannequin can be seen donning a pastel pink, lilac and white-coloured shell suit, which both retail at £10 each.
Giving the 80’s throwback a modern twist, the high-street store has finished the coordinating jacket and bottoms with white socks and a pair of sliders.
“I’m sorry but I absolutely refuse to believe that the 80’s shell suit is making a comeback,” the shocked shopper says.

“I mean WTF!”
The post has since gone viral, racking up over 259k views and hundreds of comments from fashion fans up and down the country – with very mixed reviews.
“It’s giving Tammy/Etam vibes 89 baby,” wrote one.
A second quipped: “I can hear the material now when walking – like wearing a tent.”

A third commented: “Think I just had a trauma reaction remembering trying to get dressed after swimming lessons in the 80s.”
Meanwhile, a fourth pointed out: “All fashions come back round but they really could’ve bypassed this one!”
Another noted: “I bought one and wore it once, those things don’t need to come back, nobody needs them.”
And a further added: “I’d rather wear bin bags if this is fashion again now!”
Elsewhere, others were delighted to see the 80’s throwback returning to high-street stores.
“But the colours on that are sooo pretty,” enthused one.
Another praised: “YESSS!!! I’ve been waiting for this for so long! shell suits are THE comfiest clothes ever. Awesome!”
And one more added: “My podiatrist wears one. I think it’s vintage!”
A shell suit was originally intended for use in sports, for athletes to wear over competition clothing and take off before competing.
It comes after shoppers were left divided after spotting River Island trying to bring back diamanté embellished jeans.
In a clip posted to TikTok (@fluffycxbo), one woman can be seen visiting her local high-street shop and quips: “River Island is stuck in the 90’s…
“Okay, so shopping in River Island and my first thing is,
what the f***?”
She begins by sharing a close up video of a long-line black winter coat which has small white polka dots emblazoned across it.
Next up, she shows off a pair of blue wash jeans which feature diamante embellishments and are sure to make you centre of attention – but perhaps not for the right reasons, according to some.

She’s also horrified to stumble upon jeans with floral stitching up the side, along with a black vest top and beige jumper also covered in diamante embellishments.
