What’s your most essential travel item?

Well, according to one experienced flight attendant, the answer to that question should always be ‘duct tape’.

Cici, 51, from Florida, who uses the handle @cici.inthesky on social media and does not reveal her last name, reveals in a TikTok video how the roll of tape can have multiple uses.

Firstly, she shows how it can be used to prevent lotions and potions from leaking, with the travel professional explaining: ‘Just put it over your container and then just put the lid on.’

Cici explains that if you purchase colored duct tape, a strip of it can be used on your suitcase to make it easier to identify on the airport luggage carousel

It can also be used to fix a bag strap as she demonstrates above in her video

Next up, the frequent flyer shows how a piece of folded tissue and a strip of duct tape can be used to make an impromptu band-aid.

She says this can be particularly useful if you feel a ‘blister coming on’ while you’re moving through the airport.

For travelers who have trouble sleeping, Cici demonstrates how pieces of duct tape can be used to cover up any small lights which might cause disruption, and she puts two pieces over a blue light.

Sticking to the theme of electronics, the flight attendant shows how travelers with young children can ‘childproof’ their hotel room using duct tape by covering up plug sockets.

Another use that Cici demonstrates is taking a piece of duct tape to ‘repair a broken bag strap,’ before folding a piece of the sticky tape up to create a ‘fuzz collector’ to get stray hairs off her clothing.

She also says a length of duct tape can be used to repair the hem on your pants if it ‘comes out, or maybe they’re too long.’

Moving on to footwear, Cici shows how duct tape can be used to fix shoes if the heel breaks or another area needs repairing.

Lastly, she says that the tape can be used to hide things around your hotel room, but she warns: ‘Don’t forget to leave a Post-it note so you don’t leave it there.’

After sharing her duct tape tips, Cici was inundated by a spread of other suggestions from viewers.

One commenter suggested that it could be used as an ‘over the door dead bolt [in a hotel room] so people can’t open it without an audible struggle.’

Another viewer said that the tape could be used to keep curtains or blinds closed in a hotel room, to which Cici praised as a ‘great idea!’

Others said that they were also fervent fans of duct tape.

One user wrote: ‘I never travel without duct tape. You can get the minimal rolls at the dollar store, these days $1.25. Buy a dozen and keep them handy.’

Someone else revealed how duct tape saved their shoe on one trip, writing in the comments section: ‘Went to Iceland last year and good thing someone else had duct tape – the sole of my boot came off so I taped it back together!’
