I worked at Harrods and the dress code was insane – the really strict rules for shoes & their ‘skincare’ regulations

A WOMAN who worked in Harrods has lifted the lid on what it’s really like working in one of the most luxurious department stores in the world.

Taking to the podcast the Shop Flaw, Rhiannon sat down to spill the tea on what it was really like.

With such a glamorous list of clientele and brands, you can imagine that Harrods expect their sales assistants to look their best at all times.

But Rhiannon revealed their strict dress-code was extreme to the podcast hosts, Jasmine and Timothy.

In the clip, the retail veteran said: “The dress code was super strict.”

Timothy asked what part was strict but it seemed that the store had high expectations for every little detail.

“Honestly, like giving you a tutorial on how to do your make-up,” she explained.

“If you were going to wear jewellery, diamonds and pearls were preferred.”

Stunned by the revelation – Timothy joked that of course sales assistants could afford this type of jewellery.

Rhiannon added that you had to wear all black clothes and hair styles and colours couldn’t be ‘too wild.’

“Very polished, even down to, you know, skin care,” she added.

“If your skin wasn’t looking great, it would be flagged.”

Both Jasmine and timothy were left mortified by the strict rules

Not only that, but the female employees had to wear heels while on shift when Rhiannon worked for the company.

Despite the shocking stories, Rhiannon did say the standards had since changed and overall enjoyed her time working for the company.

The clip from the podcast @theshopflaw went viral on social media with over 150k views and 4,000 likes.

Stunned viewers took to the comments sharing their own stories of working in retail.

One person wrote: “I learnt so much whilst working at Harrods. So glad I had that experience.”

Another commented: “I worked at Harrods and everyone was really humble. Maybe it’s just my experience but I enjoyed working there.”

“This is not different from working in a 5 star hotel or good airline…” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “Working in Harrods was my first full time customer service job and some of it was a lot but it made me the sales person I am today!”

“I can confirm. I went to the toilets every day and cried because it was so horrid,” claimed a fifth.
