  • People on the web were shocked by what Americans said when he got to college

A British student going to college and living in America has revealed the three ‘dumbest’ things people have said to him when he moved to the U.S.

Pete – who has yet to reveal what university he attends – is originally from England and frequently posts about his day-to-day life online.

Recently, the college student took to TikTok to share the silliest phrases that have been said to him as a ‘British person in the United States.’

In a viral video, which has so far amassed more than 1.4 million views, he lifted the lid on the jaw-dropping comments that have been made to him – including one person complimenting his English, despite being ‘European.’

He captioned the clip: ‘There are so many more I could say but these were definitely the worst.’

‘Three dumbest things I have had said to me as a British person who goes to college in the United States,’ he said at the start of the video.

The first thing was meant as a compliment, according to Pete.

‘Number one, I had a person come up to me and say considering I’m European, my English is really good,’ he said.

‘And when I told them that was because I’m from England, they said, “Yeah but my friend is European and he speaks way worse English.” His friend was from France.’

Next, he had noticed that Americans got the ‘Australian and English accents mixed up.’

The college student revealed that one of his American peers thought that he was ‘Australian,’ because they believed that Australia and the U.K. were the ‘same.’

Lastly, he shared that his friends didn’t believe he was from a village – or that they even existed.

People flooded the comments and expressed their shock, with many others sharing their own stories of their first encounters with Americans

He explained: ‘When I told my friend that I lived in a village, I then had to convince him for the next hour that a village is not just from Minecraft and I wasn’t messing with him and villages actually existed in the outside world.’

People flooded the comments and expressed their shock, with many others sharing their own stories of their first encounters with Americans.

One person said: ‘How are they in college.’

Someone else added: ‘I was asked if we had toilets and electricity in France.’

Another user commented: ‘I’m convinced they learn nothing about the rest of the world in school.’

‘These are wild,’ a fourth person declared.

In the past, an American woman who relocated to the U.K. teased British people for not understanding U.S. geography after her pals from overseas asked to visit her in Michigan before taking a ‘day trip’ to New York City.

Bateman Solms, 22, moved from rural Michigan to St Andrews, Scotland, in 2020 and has since begun posting regularly about her life abroad on her TikTok account, where she has more than 52,000 followers.

She took to the video-sharing platform and claimed that those living in the UK had no clue how America was set up because they were so used to driving or taking the train from country to country.
