Midwife reveals worst family member to have in the delivery room when giving birth – the things they say are ‘shocking’

GIVING birth can be both the happiest and most traumatic time of a woman’s life.

But according to a labour and delivery nurse named Sydney, there’s one family member you don’t want in the room with you if you’re in labour…your grandma.

In a clip shared to TikTok (@nurse_sydney), she revealed some of the most shocking things grandmas have said in the delivery room.

She begins by noting that some of the most fury-inducing comments include: “We never had epidurals back in my day…” and “You’re going to let them break your water? My water broke naturally with you.”

According to Sydney, she’s also seen grandmas offering the new mum a range of snacks as soon as the baby has arrived to help her “gather strength” – despite the mum still being sick.

And with pushing the baby out being so painful, any pregnant woman would be forgiven for making whatever loud noises they deem necessary.

But not as far as grandma is concerned, as Sydney recalled hearing one tell the mum-to-be: “I wasn’t that loud when I was delivering you.”

Elsewhere, some of the other remarks that she’s been left horrified by include: “A C-Section is not an option, no,” ‘it’s never going to look the same down there again…trust me I know” and “you can’t formula feed your baby, only breastfeed.”

Syndey captioned the post: “Shocking things grandma’s have said in the delivery room from a Labour & Delivery Nurse.”

The post has since gone viral, racking up over 41k views from horrified social media users up and down the country.

Meanwhile, a fourth noted: “And this is why it’s just me and hubby.”

Another chimed in: “Or when they start acting like u just gave birth to a baby for them to keep.”

And a further added: “How do people actually put up with people like that? I didn’t even let my mum see my sons until after a week.”
