I put Revolution’s new £11 foundation to the test and was pleasantly surprised – these are my honest thoughts

AS a beauty editor I’m always on the hunt for the best foundation, and so when I heard that Makeup Revolution was launching a new face base that “puts skincare first”, I couldn’t wait to try it out.

I got my hands on Revolution’s new £11 Silk Skin Luminous Serum Foundation before it launched, and here are my honest thoughts.

Even before I tried it, this foundation sounded right up my street.

My ideal face base gives sheer-to-medium coverage, a glowing finish and feels comfortable and hydrating on the skin – and Revolution’s new one seemed to tick all the boxes.

Described by the brand as a “skin-loving serum foundation”, Skin Silk is formulated with hyaluronic acid and peptides and claims to plump and hydrate the skin while giving a natural radiant finish.

It’s available in 20 shades and is on sale now from Boots and Revolution’s website for £10.99.

I admit that I’m a bit snooty about the foundation, as I think it’s one beauty product that I think is worth spending money on.

My current favourites include Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation and the new Shiseido Revitalessence Glow Foundation – both of which cost around the £40 mark – so I was dubious to see how good this £11 Revolution face base could be.

However, after trying it out for several days, I was pleasantly surprised, and impressed.

I tried shades F3 and F4, and because the coverage is light, both are good matches to my skin tone; however, I’ll probably wear F3 during winter and reach for F4 in summer or if I’ve applied a bit of fake tan.

Skin Silk has a lightweight, silky consistency that goes on a dream, blends well and feels immediately hydrating and smoothing on the skin.

It leaves a sheer veil of coverage that subtly evens out skin tone, and gives a very natural-looking glow that’s not at all shimmery or sticky, instead more ‘my skin but better’.

It’s not perfect – I found that it looked a bit patchy in places towards the end of the day, and my bottle had a tendency to leak a little when I pressed the cap on – but if you like a radiant, light coverage foundation that feels great on the skin, this is a great choice.

I think it would suit all skin types, and at £10.99, the price is excellent too.

Revolution Skin Silk Foundation is available to buy now from Boots and the Revolution website.
