Shocking moment woman pretending to be a beggar steals phone from coffee shop customer with cunning distraction trick – before skipping off down the road with joy

A shameless thief who posed as a beggar to steal a mobile phone was videoed moments later skipping for joy down the street.

The fake homeless person was filmed walking into a cafe in North Finchley, London, and approaching two men.

Dressed in a grey coat and white woolly hat, the fraud noticed one of them had his phone on the table.

As the female thief started talking to the man and asking for money, she placed a piece of paper down.

The sheet, which explained her made-up plight, covered up his phone.

She is seen chatting to the male friends for 12 seconds before using the paper as a veil to slide the mobile into her hand.

The other man handed a few coins to the woman and she backed away from the table.

She quickly left the coffee shop before the victim realised his phone was missing.

After stealing the phone, the thief was seen dancing down the street and getting into a waiting car outside moments later at 1:50pm on Friday, January 26.

The Met Police have been approached. A local to the area said a similar crime happened to her

The owner of the cafe reported the theft to the police.

It is understood that the fake beggar had a female accomplice.

A local North Finchley local, Channel Lilley, said: ‘This happened to me in Wood Green.’

Another, named Bella, said: ‘This is why I don’t help people anymore like this.

‘I just say no move away.’

Kamran added: ‘This better not happen to me.

‘Or else whoever that person is to even think about trying to thieve me in a way, won’t be living.’

The Met Police has been approached for comment.
