TOWIE star Amber Dowding sparked concern among fans after showing how her left eye had puffed up and ballooned in size.

The reality TV favourite, 30, was rushed to hospital amid the scary incident – which sparked “blurry” vision and needed an “urgent” referral.

Over the weekend, Amber took to her Instagram page to document her medical drama.

One sorry snap showed the TOWIE alumni on a chair in the hospital ward as she revealed her diagnosis of periorbital cellulitis.

In her caption, the hairdresser wrote: “That was the quickest time spent in hospital ever. So grateful!!

“In and out within less than 30 minutes. Anyway it’s periorbital cellulitis, they have given me antibiotics and have sent an urgent request to the eye casualty unit to follow up with me tomorrow to make sure it’s getting better.

“Because I’ve got a headache and the pressure is so bad they have advised me to go to a certain hospital.

“Sure once these antibiotics kick in I’ll be fine.

“Thanks for your messages and telling me to get checked.”

Later on, she posted a picture showing her cuddled up to her dog.

Yet she later revealed how a nurse had called around to administer more eye drops.

Amber then confirmed the diagnosis as she added: “In some cases (rarely) it can affect deeper into the eye which is why they wanted to see me quickly but thankfully it hasn’t.”

The star then told how the antibiotics would be her course of treatment – but how she is unable to drive.

Yet things took a turn for the worse when the “horrific” swelling spread to her lips and the TV personality admitted she felt she was being “punched in the head every few minutes.”

The condition is an infection of the eyelid or skin around the eye.

It can follow a minor injury to the eye.

We recently reported how she had switched a career in telly to be a hairdresser – yet it appears she will now need some time off to recover.

She also suffered a devastating loss recently after her puppy died unexpectedly.

What is periorbital cellulitis?

AMBER Dowding has the condition, but what is it?

Periorbital cellulitis is an infection of the eyelid or skin around the eye.

According to NHS.co.uk: Cellulitis makes your skin painful, hot and swollen. The area usually looks red, but this may be less obvious on brown or black skin.

Your skin may also be blistered, and you can also have swollen, painful glands.

For mild cellulitis affecting a small area of skin, a doctor will prescribe antibiotic tablets – usually for a week.

Your symptoms might get worse in the first 48 hours of treatment, but should then start to improve.

If it’s not treated quickly, the infection can spread to other parts of the body, such as the blood, muscles and bones.
