‘Stupidest’ reasons cars fail MOT tests are revealed by expert mechanic – as drivers are issued an urgent warning

AN EXPERIENCED mechanic has revealed the “stupidest” reason for drivers failing their MOT tests.

They could become a distraction for drivers or block their vision of the road which could force examiners to reject a vehicle.

This could be a costly blow for motorists who will not legally be allowed to use the motor until it passes another MOT test.

The warning was made by Eurofit Autocentres on TikTok after they were asked to explain the “stupidest reasons” a car could fail.

“Right, the silliest reason a car will fail its MOT is you know when you have stuff hanging from your rearview mirror,” the mechanic explained.

He added: “Sometimes you have just one air freshener but some people have quite a lot of things hanging from there.”

Leaving items hanging from the rear-view mirror could end up costing motorists more than £50 for another MOT test.

Every vehicle that is three years old or over must have a current MOT certificate and you must renew this once a year.

The video gathered hundreds of comments from people who had their cars failed because they left things dangling from their rearview mirror and for other reasons.

“Mine failed it because of that,” a user wrote.

Another added: “My car failed on the air freshener, the tester then moved it and passed it straight after.”

Eurofit Autocentres replied: “Always worth just taking them off before your test.”

As a driver, it is your responsibility to make sure your vehicle is safe on the roads

An MOT test checks that your vehicle is safe and roadworthy and ensures it meets road safety and environmental standards.

It comes after a mechanic warned drivers of “cheap” plastic parts in almost every motor that could cost drivers hundreds to repair.

And this mechanic urges people to learn more about their cars to stop them from getting ripped off.
