Shameless fly-tippers desecrate idyllic village by blocking off the lane by dumping rubbish including discarded roof tiles and huge pile of soil in front of anti-dumping sign

A village lane has been forced to close after a group of shameless fly-tippers dumped a pile of rubbish in front of an anti-dumping sign.

Discarded roof tiles and a huge pile of soil were discovered blocking School Lane in Horton Kirby, at around 6am on Monday.

The major road in the Kent village could now be closed for up to a week as Kent County Council (KCC) investigate, with the mess continuing to block the road leading out of the small parish.

Photos of the aftermath posted by KCC Highways on social media site X show a prominent green anti-fly-tipping sign right next to the mound of dirt left by the inconsiderate criminals.

Several more anti-dumping signs and posters are placed along the lane on the way into the village in Sevenoaks District that lies five miles south of Dartford

The poster shows two large eyes peering down at the frequent fly-tipping site and a notice reading ‘We Are Watching. Fly-tippers face an unlimited fine or a prison sentence. CCTV active locally.’

School Lane is one of only three roads in or out of the village – and is now unusable for up to a week as locals wait for KCC to clear the road for motorists.

The road was out of action for around a week earlier this month when more earth and what appeared to be tree trimmings were dumped on the narrow road – causing traffic chaos.
