Meet Australia’s dumbest driver: Bloke smashes into the back of a police car as he pulls into a petrol station

The awkward moment an unlucky driver ploughs into the back of an unmarked police car at a petrol station has been captured on CCTV.

Footage shows a black Toyota Camry smashing into the back of the car just seconds after pulling into a service station in Croydon, in Sydney‘s inner west.

The officer is seen throwing his arms into the air as the police vehicle lurches forward from the impact of the rear-collision.

A passenger quickly jumps out of the Camry and surveys the damage to the car before beckoning the driver to do the same.

Meanwhile, the officer pulls his notepad and phone out of his pocket.

He is seen jotting down the vehicle’s numberplate before the driver finally gets out of the Camry and takes in the scene.

NSW Police said the Camry collided with the unmarked police car at a service station on Liverpool Road at about 2.30pm on February 15.

Both vehicles sustained minor damage and details were exchanged.

The officer attended hospital for assessment as a precaution.

The driver, a 28-year-old man, has been issued an infringement for negligent driving which can carry a maximum penalty of $2200.
