The SAG Awards kicked off in very fashionable swing this evening with the toast of Hollywood stepped out on the red carpet at one of the biggest events of awards season, save for the prestigious Oscars

Hollywood’s elite were out in force on the red carpet – which played host to some of the industry’s biggest names… as well as some of the season’s most bizarre fashion choices.

In true awards show fashion, the 30th annual SAGs, which took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, were filled with many style highs and a plethora of fashion lows, with several early arrivals putting on a woefully awkward display, even before the official red carpet coverage had kicked off.

Ali Wong made a rather baffling appearance on the red carpet in an enormous gown that featured strings of diamond-shaped embellishments flying off the sides – leaving the comedian looking not unlike a pigeon.

The dress' enormous embellishments resembled the wings of a bird - yet somehow also made Ali appear as though she'd walked off the set of the latest Alice in Wonderland movie

Killers of the Flower Moon star Cara Jade Myers drew the eye for all the wrong reasons in her garish neon ensemble, which featured a swathe of pink, yellow, and orange tassels hanging from a very bizarre orange bodice

The normally-stylish Melissa McCarthy looked like she'd wrapped herself in swathes of tinfoil rather than trying to find a suitable gown

The eyesore ensemble could well have been a costume from a high school production of Alice in Wonderland, but whatever the inspiration behind it, the dress was without a doubt one of the strangest styles to appear on the red carpet.

Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler – who normally puts on a very stylish red carpet display – also missed the mark in her tattered cream gown, which looked as though it had been decorated with strips of old toilet paper thanks to the strings of sheer fabric that hung down from the clinging silhouette.

To add insult to injury, the design flowed into several stringy shreds that made it appear as though it had been dragged through several thorny bushes before it appeared on the red carpet.

Killers of the Flower Moon star Cara Jade Myers drew the eye for all the wrong reasons in her garish neon ensemble, which featured a swathe of pink, yellow, and orange tassels hanging from a very bizarre orange bodice, giving the impression that she was ready to take part in a flamboyant carnival rather than walk the red carpet at a glittering celebrity event.

Speaking of voluminous nightmares, talented actress Danielle Brooks’ gown was rivaled only by Ali’s in its ability to steal space – and shocked stares – on the red carpet.

The Orange Is the New Black starlet wore a very bizarre split-style design that featured a sharp suit on one side, then an enormous ruffled purple-and-black skirt on the other.

Rachel Brosnahan made quite the impact on the eyes for all the wrong reasons thanks to her metallic frock, which created quite the painful optical illusion when put in front of the flashing cameras

Laverne Cox was one of the earliest SAG Awards guests to put a fashionable foot wrong, choosing to prioritize scandal over style in her bra-baring ensemble

She was not the only one daring to bare a little too much on the red carpet - The Parent Trap star Lisa Ann Walter also went a bit OTT with her revealing gown, which featured some very salacious cutouts that left little to the imagination

Comedian Alex Borstein's ill-fitting dress did little to flatter her figure - however she seemed to relish showing off the large slit that ran up one side of the skirt

The Orange Is the New Black starlet wore a very bizarre split-style design that featured a sharp suit on one side, then an enormous ruffled purple-and-black skirt on the other

Her half-skirt featured layer-upon-layer of ruffled tulle fabric, flowing in an ombre style from black to pale purple, with the final layer flowing out behind her as a train that ran down just one side of the look.

The overall effect was that of an illusionist or circus performer trying to portray two on-stage roles at once – and was far more comical than chic.

The normally-stylish Melissa McCarthy looked like she’d wrapped herself in swathes of tinfoil rather than trying to find a suitable gown when she stepped out onto the red carpet in a silver frock that featured enormous sagging sleeves, which drew the eye for every wrong reason.

Another metallic miss came in the form of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan, who donned a bell-shaped gold frock which turned into a rather painful-looking optical illusion when she stepped in front of the cameras.

When faced with the flashing lights, the pleated skirt of the gown developed shadows across it that resembled television static, and likely left more than one onlooker feeling rather dazed.

To add insult to injury, the gold gown’s layered skirt made the on-screen star look like a church bell – or perhaps an angel that one might pop on top of a Christmas tree.

The Color Purple actress Phylicia Pearl Mpasi's silver dress resembled tin foil that had been dragged through red paint before she stepped out onto the red carpet

Actress Joey King's dress looked as though it had been yanked off the racks at the nearest Goodwill - while her 90s-style headband left her tresses looking as though they hadn't been touched

Elaine Welteroth (pictured) resembled a tacky holiday gift in her gold bow-topped gown, while Nischelle Turner looked as though she was about to be swallowed whole by the enormous fabric of her dress

Chris Perfetti's brown suit looked like a prom ensemble from the 1980s

Laverne Cox was one early arrival who also suffered a fashion faux pas, opting to prioritize scandal over style in her bra-baring ensemble, which she paired with a unique military-style cropped jacket and a long black velvet skirt – adding a very gothic touch in the form of a thick beaded choker around her neck.

And she was not the only one daring to bare a little too much on the red carpet; The Parent Trap star Lisa Ann Walter also went a bit OTT with her revealing gown, which featured some very salacious cutouts that left little to the imagination.

The black velvet gown was flattering in many ways – save for the enormous diamond-shaped hole across the chest, with her modesty protected only by a very thin strip of fabric that ran across her breasts.

The Kissing Booth star Joey King put a rare fashion foot out of line in her rather drab dress, which featured a beige skirt, complete with vintage-style flower designs, which looked not unlike a pair of curtains that one might find in a suburban Goodwill.

Coupled with the tacky 90s-style hairband that coiled through her locks – and was paired with some sheer black gloves – the whole look made it seem as though she’d walked straight out of a mall and into a trashy high school prom, rather than a red carpet event.

Speaking of prom, Abbott Elementary star Chris Perfetti’s brown tuxedo, which featured a pair of bootcut trousers, looked not unlike an outfit one might expect a sartorially-challenged teen to have donned for their high school event in the 1980s – although thankfully he chose to go without the ruffled shirt.
