The 1% Club breaks ITV records with ‘stupid’ question – but can you pass Lee Mack’s test?

THE 1% Club has broken show records after almost all of the contestants were eliminated during a single round.

The question asked by host Lee Mack on the ITV gameshow also left viewers at home baffled and ‘gutted’ – but can you crack it?

During the latest instalment of The 1% Club, Lee presented a question involving emojis to the remaining group of players.

Initially, the episodes begin with 100 contestants, but gradually most of the players are eliminated after incorrectly answering a series of questions that require reason and logic until only one question stands between the winner and the cash prize.

The question asked in the final round is supposed to be so challenging that only 1% of the population knows the answer.

Unfortunately, midway through Saturday night’s episode, many contestants were caught out by a perplexing problem, which resulted in a record-breaking 30 players being axed.

The proposed question was: “How many eyes can you see in the image below?”

The players were tasked with working out how many eyes they could see in the image, which was made up of letters, symbols and emojis.

Before the answer was disclosed, the 55 year old was floored after discovering that 30 people had left the game.

Lee exclaimed: “Wow, I wasn’t expecting that! 30 people out – I think that might some sort of record!”

Several people were convinced that it was 22 because they included the letter ‘i’ in their total of ‘eyes’… but the question was exclusively about eyes that would be found on someone’s face.

Viewers at home playing along were also left baffled and frustrated by the result.

Taking to X(formerly Twitter), one viewer said: “Damn. Out at the 35% question this week. All because of eyes!”

A second person chimed: “I’d still be in if not for that stupid eyes question.”.

Another stated: “I counted 15 eyes but decided there must be a trick because it was too easy, and I bottled it and wasted the pass.”

Other fans of the gameshow seemed to have spotted a possible loophole in the question, as the eyes were closed on the red angry face emoji.

Pointing out the possible blunder, one user wrote: “The angry emoji eyes were closed, so answer is 13.”

Another echoed: “Got the concept of the question right but put 12 as missed the one eye in the middle and thought the angry emoji’s eyes were closed, so technically they couldn’t be seen.”

If you haven’t figured it out yet, the answer to the question is 15. And If you did, then you just might be in the 1% club.

The 1% Club returns on Saturday at 8.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
