However, Nunez had the last laugh as he snatched a dramatic late winner for the Reds.

Klopp was able to see the funny side of the chant after the match, when questioned by reporters.

The Liverpool boss joked: “I would not sing a song like that. I would try not to wind Darwin up.

“The goal was super deserved for him. They can sing it when Darwin responds like that.”

Carroll became Liverpool’s record signing in 2011 after signing from Newcastle for £35million.

In two-and-a-half years at Anfield, he scored 11 goals in 58 appearances for the club.

Meanwhile, Nunez has now taken his tally for the season to 14 with his goal at the City Ground.

He has also bagged ten times in the Premier League so far this term.

His latest goal was not without controversy, though, with Nunez scoring in the 99th minute.

The goal sparked chaotic scenes, with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis confronting referee Paul Tierney at full-time.

He reportedly had to be removed by security after chasing the referee down the tunnel.

Liverpool’s late win sees Klopp’s side extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to four points.

Title rivals Manchester City are in action on Sunday, though, as they welcome Manchester United to the Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal are a further point back in third ahead of their clash with Sheffield United on Monday.
