Gov. Kathy Hochul Blames Republicans For Failing To Pass Bill To Solve Migrant Issue On ‘The View’: “Donald Trump Said No”

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is blaming Republicans for the government’s failure to properly address illegal immigration in the United States.

The politician stopped by this morning’s episode of The View, where she was asked about the ongoing immigration crisis — which has brought 178,000 migrants into her home state alone.

“There has to be a legal path we can control because the surge — this is the largest migration of humanity since World War II. And this is unprecedented,” she said, adding that government officials are “doing the best we can to manage the influx [and] get people housing.”

However, she said it’s “very expensive” — and federal funding is being “held up” by Republicans in Congress and the Senate who shot down a bipartisan proposal that would have helped the issue.

“[They] said no because Donald Trump called them up one night, the night before they should’ve voted on this — to send 2,000 more border patrol people to the border … money for states like New York that would’ve helped us a lot and just have a different path to citizenship and look at the asylum and whether it’s too loose right now, the way it’s being used and probably abused,” Hochul explained.

She continued, “So I blame the Republicans now. The mess was bipartisan before that. Democrats and Republicans have not successfully found a way to legal citizenship because the employers want this.”

Hochul recalled telling the 10 New York Republicans in the House of Representatives to “march into” Speaker Mike Johnson’s office and urge him to pass the bill.

“It all was going to happen just a couple of weeks ago and Donald Trump said, ‘No, I don’t want Joe Biden to look good like he solved the problem,’” Hochul said. “They admit that. That’s the answer to the problem long term.”

While they may have a long way to go, Hochul said she is hopeful they will come to a resolution eventually.

“I still believe it can happen but I want pressure on everyone’s Republican members of Congress to get out there,” she said. “Do this for our country.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
