Three more teenagers are arrested over alleged hate crime after shocking footage showed Black schoolboy being hit and told to ‘kiss shoes’ by tormenter

Three more teenagers have been arrested over an alleged hate crime after a shocking video showed a black schoolboy being hit and forced to kiss the shoe of a white male. 

The video circulated online appears to show the pupil dressed in school uniform being pushed around by another boy who orders him to ‘get on your knees and kiss my shoe’ or ‘you are getting whacked’.

The phrase ‘kiss my shoe’ is repeated multiple times with others behind the camera heard laughing as the schoolboy tries to resist. The schoolboy eventually bends down and is forced to kiss the muddy wellington boot. 

Another clip, that appears to have been filmed only moments later, showed the same boy following the student up the street and punching him twice before an onlooker intervenes.  

Four boys have now been arrested over the alleged hate crime attack which is said to have happened in the Upperby area of Carlisle on Friday. It comes after one boy was arrested early yesterday on suspicion racially aggravated actual bodily harm.

The three other boys, all said to be in their early teens, were later arrested on suspicion of abetting racially aggravated actual bodily harm.  

Cumbria Constabulary urged the public not to share the ‘abhorrent’ images that had already been widely circulated on social media. As of Saturday night the video had been viewed almost 200,000 times. 

Social media user Olumo of Derby, captioned the video: ‘Racism in the UK is getting worse everyday. A black child was racially abused and beaten up today at St John Henry Newman Catholic School in Carlisle. Are black people not safe in Carlisle?’ 

Superintendent Sarah Jones said: ‘These are abhorrent images circulating online that have caused shock and concern in both the community and among officers here at Cumbria Police.

‘We understand an incident such as this can be concerning for many but we can reassure the community this is an incident we are taking very seriously – and we have made four arrests.

‘Our officers have worked through the night and continue to carry out investigations today.’

As a result of the incident, police patrols have been increased in Carlisle as a response to concerns for the community.  

Supt Jones added: ‘As arrests have been made, we would continue to urge people not to share the video further so as not to impede any potential legal proceedings or to identify any of the children involved.’
