THIS is the shocking moment a bouncer appears to slam a man’s head to the floor “causing him to suffer a seizure”.

Dramatic footage of the disturbing incident appears to show the man’s head being hit to the ground outside a pub in Middlesbrough.

The horrible incident unfolded outside the Corporation Road at The Empire nightclub on March 23 at around 11pm.

In the video, a man, who is seems to wear a security batch, appears to be involved in a violent altercation.

The victim appears to be “thrown to the ground” – causing him to “start fitting”.

Officers arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of GBH, and later bailed him pending further enquiries.

They were also able to find the alleged victim, who claimed he was not seriously injured.

SUSPENSION

Following the incident, the pub faced a licensing hearing after Cleveland Police urged the council to suspend the club’s licence.

Middlesborough Council has now agreed to close the pub temporarily.

Sergeant Glyn Bavin said it was “concerning” that the alleged victim “appeared to be unconscious” following the incident.

Cleveland Police said: “At Middlesbrough Council’s Licensing Committee meeting, Councillors met to consider an application from Cleveland Police for a Summary Review of the Premises Licence in respect of The Empire following an incident which took place at the premises on Saturday, March 23.

“After hearing submissions from all parties Councillors agreed to the request from Cleveland Police to suspend the premises licence as an interim step until a full review hearing can be arranged within the next four weeks.”

He also said the victim suffered a seizure after of being “thrown to the ground on his head”.

The police added: “Cleveland Police believe that immediate action is required to prevent further risk to the community.”

In a statement, The Empire apologised for the disruption to the Easter weekend and it was “committed” to providing a safe night space.

REFUNDS

Taking to Facebook, owners posted: “Further to a hearing of the licensing committee which we attended today, Middlesbrough Council have taken the decision to temporarily close The Middlesbrough Empire with immediate effect.

“Whilst we understand the concerns that were raised by a recent incident, we are nonetheless disappointed.

“We await the full written decision, and we will then take a few days to consider our response and what actions need to be taken. Obviously any response is now delayed by the bank holiday weekend.”

The pub also assured customers will be refunded for their tickets.

They added: “We remain absolutely committed to providing a safe night time space in Middlesbrough.

“We apologise that we can’t deliver our Easter weekend program, and any ticket refunds will be processed as soon as possible.

“Whatever you end up doing this weekend, we hope that you have a wonderful time and that you keep safe. We will see you soon.”
