Flights were suspended at Liverpool John Lennon Airport due to a power failure this afternoon causing chaos for passengers.
The failure impacted air traffic control, meaning aircraft operations ground to a halt, leaving flights to be diverted and ticket holders unable to board their flight at all.
Engineers managed to resolve the issue at around 3pm and get aircraft operations up and running again but it has been warned that delays may still happen.
In a post on X, the airport said: ‘Our engineers have resolved the earlier Air Traffic Control power issue, and aircraft operations have now resumed.
‘There may be delays to your flight, please consult your airline for any further updates. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.’
An earlier post from the airport said: ‘Unfortunately a power failure is impacting Air Traffic Control & aircraft operations are temporarily suspended.
‘Passengers or those meeting flights should contact their airline for the latest flight information.
‘Engineers are working to resolve this asap with up dates to follow’.
Ryanair issued a warning to passengers on its website that said: ‘Affected passengers will be notified and any passengers travelling to/from Liverpool on Mon 22 Apr should check their Ryanair app for the latest updates on their flight.
‘We regret any inconvenience caused to passengers by this temporary air traffic control power outage, which is outside of Ryanair’s control and affects all airlines operating to/from Liverpool Mon 22 Apr.’
