This is the shocking moment thieves smashed through a Nationwide branch to steal a cash machine in an early morning ramraid before fleeing in a stolen pickup truck. 

Video footage taken at 5.30am today shows a telehandler near the Nationwide ATM in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. 

The large vehicle drives backwards and forwards and loud crashes can be heard before something seems to fall onto the floor. 

Two men can be seen watching nearby while a white pick-up truck, that has been reported as stolen according to the police, is also situated at the side.

The truck had reportedly originally been parked at a pub on the same street, Bishop’s Stratford Independent told.

One of the men appears to pick something up from the ground and put it in the back of the truck.

The telehandler then seems to lift up what appears to be the cash machine and the pickup tuck reverses so that the large grey box can be placed in the back.

Some of the men run away while alarms blare out, leaving the telehandler behind, and the white truck takes off with the cash machine. 

The telehandler was also reported as stolen to the police. At least three men are thought to be involved in the incident.

Neighbourhood Inspector Mark Collins said: ‘Enquiries are continuing this morning and we’re working with our colleagues at Sawbridgeworth Town Council to review any CCTV opportunities.

‘We are aware that several people may have captured footage of the incident which could assist us. 

‘If you have any CCTV, doorbell camera, phone or dash cam footage from the area around the time, please get in touch asap, using the dedicated link to upload it directly to our system for review. Thank you.’

A Nationwide spokesperson said: ‘We are aware of the incident at our branch in Sawbridgeworth which happened early this morning. We are working to get the branch open again and the ATM replaced as soon as possible. 

‘In the meantime, customers can visit one of our nearby branches for face-to-face service, such as Bishop’s Stortford or Harlow. We recommend checking locations and opening hours on our website.’
