‘I get great results every time’ pro gardener says as he shows failsafe way to make balding lawns look lush for summer

A PROFESSIONAL gardener has shared his top tips for making your lawn look lush and healthy in time for summer.

The gardening whizz shared clips of his patchy, balding lawn in the video and revealed that the first part of the renovation process is to cut the grass at the lowest height with a lawn mower.

After this, he passes a scarifier over the lawn twice to remove the thatch layer of the lawn and to break up the soil.

Scarifiers are designed to encourage healthy lawn growth by removing dead debris from the grass, and you can pick one up from Screwfix for £37.99.

The third thing that Alexander does to get his lawn looking lush is to rake up all of the thatch left on the grass after scarification.

Then he throws grass seed (you can pick this up from Amazon for £6.99) down on the lawn, to allow new grass to grow.

After this he applies multi-purpose compost (available from Amazon for £6.99) to the grass and uses a rake to mix the soil and seeds together.

Using the rear roller on his mower, he then passes over the surface to press the seeds down into the soil.

He said: “The seeds are more likely to stay in place and not get blown away by the wind or displaced by other natural elements.

“You’re more likely to have better success when the seed has this stronger connection with the soil.”

Lastly, Alexander keeps the surface of the lawn damp for two to three weeks until the new grass has grown.

Expert Tips for a Lush Lawn

“This is the process I do and I always get great results every time”, he said showing off his lawn, which has now been transformed into a lush, green haven.

The gardener’s video, which was posted under the username @alexandersgardening, has likely left many people impressed, as it has racked up over 2.5 million views on the video-sharing platform.

TikTok users raced to the video’s comments section to share their thoughts on his tips.

How To Make Your Small Garden Look Bigger

Garden design expert Fiona Jenkins from MyJobQuote.co.uk has created a guide on how to make your small garden look larger.

Add shelves – for additional storage and place to hold more plants.

Use foldaway furniture – to take up less space when not in use.

Add privacy – with fencing, trellis, brick walls or hedging.

Add a water feature – to make your garden seem like a natural retreat.

Go bright – when choosing plants, opt for bold colours to make the space pop.

Use large planters – to get more plants in less space.

Plant vertically – add plants upwards to make your garden seem fuller, and therefore, bigger.

Use blue flowers at the edges – blue flowers and plants recede into the distance and make the garden appear bigger.

Grow tall plants – it’s better to think big when it comes to a small garden.

Keep clutter a minimum – as it can give the illusion of less space than there actually is.

One person said: “It was a sad lawn at the beginning and you restored it so beautifully”, he said.

Another person added: “Beautiful results”.

A third said: “Very impressive.

“I’ll be doing the same.”
