If you’re after an affordable used motor with plenty of space for you and your camping bits, then the Dacia Duster could be the set of wheels for you.

Described as “extremely affordable for an SUV”, the Duster boasts bucket loads of room, high ground clearance, and some versions even have four-wheel drive.

While the interior is basic, it’s also comfortable and spacious with a large boot capable of storing 475 litres – or 1,636 litres if you fold down the rear seats.

Not only is the Skoda Kodiaq one of the best SUVs on the market that’s perfect for the highstreet – it can also completely own it on a campsite.

Described as “incredibly practical and spacious”, the Kodiaq is well built, well equipped and “flexible enough to cope with various combinations of people and luggage.”

The boot – like with most Skodas – offers plenty of room with 270 litres (with all seven seats in place) to 720 litres (five seats up) to 2,065 litres (all rear seats folded).

In comparison, a campsite is a piece of country pie for this cool-looking estate – with its raised ride height and four-wheel-drive system ideal for muddy or uneven fields.

It also comes with a massive boot, well suited to lugging camping gear – the current model has between 561 and 1,822 litres of space.

As the experts at CarGuru say: “It doesn’t matter where you choose to set up your tent, the Toyota Land Cruiser will get you there.”

The off-roading legend can handle anything in its path, be it deserts, muddy tracks or snow and ice, and with Toyota’s reputation for reliability – you can be confident it won’t break down in the middle of nowhere.

The cabin is practical, but opting for a model with a higher trim level will see a few extra benefits, including an 8.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system and a DAB radio.

The second row of seats in more recent versions slides back and forth, while the third row folds into the floor to maximise boot space – which could be as big as 1,270 litres.

Better yet, it can tow up to 3,000kg – should you require a trailer or a caravan.

If you can look beyond its boxy design, the Citroen Berlingo might be your perfect camping companion.

With spacious interiors, this funky MPV from France is a cool way to travel – even boasting clever shelves, cubbies and storage spaces, which all come in very handy when you’re packing.

There’s certainly storage space for tents and sleeping bags thanks to a boot of 1,050 litres, even with all seven seats in place.

Or, fold them flat and you’ve got up to 3,500 litres available – ideal for an air mattress.
