Netflix Releases First Footage Of Liam Hemsworth’s Shocking Transformation Into ‘The Witcher’s Geralt Of Rivia

Netflix has finally released a first glimpse of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia, a role Henry Cavill famously originated in The Witcher.

The streamer released an ominous Season 4 teaser yesterday (May 22) to give Witcher fans a look at Hemsworth’s shocking transformation. Complete with Geralt’s signature long platinum hair and his smoldering eyes, it’s almost as if Cavill never left.

The teaser shows Geralt leading his horse through the woods until he’s suddenly approached by what is likely a huge, magical beast.

The actor certainly has big shoes to fill. Hemsworth will be taking over the role after Cavill stepped away from the show in 2022, a decision that came as a shock to many Witcher fans as the Netflix series was a passion project for the actor.

Hemsworth praised Cavill in a statement after the news was announced. “As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” he said. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”

Hemsworth won’t be the only newcomer joining the latest season. Laurence Fishburne also joined the Season 4 cast as Regis, a fan-favorite character with a mysterious past.

The Witcher has already been renewed for a fifth and final season, which will be filmed back-to-back with Season 4 to complete the adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books.

Season 3 ended with Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer getting separated once again.

Per Netflix, the official Season 4 logline reads: “After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out Season 3, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire and finding one another again.”

Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said Geralt will have Jaskier and Milva by his side to aid him in finding Ciri and Yennefer in Season 4.

“It’s the group traveling with Geralt for the rest of the books. This becomes his newfound family,” Schmidt Hissrich told Netflix Tudum. “He begins to realize that he needs help to get Yennefer and Ciri back, and when you need to help, you actually have to give of yourself as well… It’s really fun. That’s still a struggle for Geralt.”

A Witcher Season 4 premieres date has not been announced yet.
