‘Come on, out you pop’: Moment bungling drug dealer jumps through a bush and into a river as he fails to flee police

This is the moment a bungling drug dealer jumps through a bush and into a river as he tries and fails to flee police.

Fynley Jefferies, 20, was sat on a fence with a man bag across his front and a black plastic bag when he was spotted by neighbourhood officers on August 21 last year.

As they turned around to speak to him, Jefferies ran off, darted into some bushes and jumped into the river in St Neots, Cambridgeshire.

He stayed in the water for a few minutes and was seen tying his man  bag to some hanging branches before getting out to meet officers.

In the video footage, police can be heard saying hello to nearby picnickers before rounding the corner to find Jefferies in the water up to his thighs.

An officer says to Jefferies: ‘You’ve lost your bag as well mate’ to which he replies: ‘I know’.

He tells them he is out of breath and lies flat on the grass with his head in his hands.

A soaking wet Jefferies then removes his black hoodie and is searched by officers.

A member of the public on a paddleboard helped retrieve Jefferies’s bag which contained £325 in cash as well as cocaine, ecstasy and ketamine with a a street value of £2,000.

Jefferies, of Eynesbury, was sentenced to three years and 11 months in prison at Cambridge Crown Court on June 4.

He had previously pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession with intent to supply MDMA, possession of cannabis, harassment without violence and malicious communication.

PC Neal Bartley, from the St Neots neighbourhood policing team, said: ‘Jefferies put his life at risk by jumping into the river in an attempt to hide his drugs and cash from us.

‘Unfortunately for him we knew exactly what he was up to and with help from a member of the public, we were able to secure the evidence needed for his conviction.

‘We will continue to target people who sell drugs in our community.’
