The delivery firms, used by major retailers including Asos and Argos to fulfil customer orders, were hit with criticism today.

If orders aren’t received by Christmas Eve, people could find themselves without gifts to give as most firms won’t deliver on December 25.

One customer said their order had been held at a Yodel depot for two days but no attempt had been made to drop it off.

“It’s been two days now. After two days I’m allowed to collect my parcel from the depot as you still are yet to make an attempt to deliver. Where the hell is my parcel?” they said.

Another complained their parcel is a week overdue with no update.

They said on Twitter: “The courier that ruined Christmas”.

A shopper added: “Yodel have ruined Christmas a little. Still had my parcels at main depot since the 16th and no sign of delivery.”

Meanwhile, consumers also slammed courier firm Hermes for being slow to drop off Christmas gifts.

One shopper messaged Asos, which uses Hermes, to say: “We are begging. Stop using Hermes. I ordered from them last week, only one of my items arrived and I still don’t have the other. It’s ridiculous.”

Another said a parcel ordered on December 7 is yet to arrive, saying it’s “Still lost in Hermes delivery hell.”

“Reordered next day delivery 21 Dec and it was sent to Hermes again! Still no show. Appalling service!!,” they said.

A Yodel spokesperson said: “We’ve been working hard delivering millions parcels over the last week and thanks to the tireless efforts of our colleagues, the absolute vast majority of deliveries have been successful.

“Deliveries will continue throughout this evening and we encourage anyone expecting a parcel delivery to use our online tracking tools.

“In the rare instance where a customer requires further support, we encourage them to contact our dedicated customer services team via webchat on yodel.co.uk or telephone.”
