AN INCREDIBLE vintage car collection including a £44k bulletproof Mercedes and 1947 Harley Davidson has been left to rot in an old castle.

Michael Rubel realised his childhood dream by building Rubel Castle in Glendora, California, from 1968 to 1986 – and packing it with classic motors.

Hundreds of volunteers used local river rock, salvaged materials and objects including glass bottles and motorcycle parts.

The fort has its own gate, multiple five-story towers, living quarters, a blacksmith shop and even a working clock tower.

Aside from the Route 66-adjacent castle, the site is littered with four-wheeled relics, MotorTrend found.

There are tractors, flatbed trucks, motorcycles and vintage cars tucked into every corner.

Michael had already bought a Studebaker and Ford Tudor when he was just 16 and is said to have ultimately owned up to 70 vehicles.

Some can still be found at the castle, such as a bulletproof 1957 Mercedes 300C and a 1947 Harley Davidson worth £35,000.

The Merc is said to have originally been a German staff car which ended up in the US.

Other vehicles include a Rubel Farms 1929 Studebaker Commander Brougham GJ Six valued at between £48,000 and £75,000.

The sedan was gifted to Michael by his grandfather in 1956 and is still running.

A 1927 Chevrolet flatbed farm truck and even a restored Santa Fe caboose are two more obscure vehicles at the castle.

Following Michael’s death in 2007, the castle and surrounding estate were acquired by the Glendora Historical Society.

Prince Philip, movie director Alfred Hitchcock and ex-US President Dwight Eisenhower are said to have visited the “monumental folk architecture site”.

Elsewhere, a huge car graveyard was discovered which was filled with an array of vintage cars.

Another urban explorer revealed a creepy car graveyard inside an abandoned factory.

Sean Piper also found a a vintage car graveyard behind an abandoned house in Chester, Cheshire.
