A huge fire has broken out in south Wales, shocking images showing plumes of smoke billowing near the station as firefighters battle desperately to put it out.

Pictures showed residents gathering to watch the brave efforts of the emergency services near an industrial estate in Newport.

The fire was reported to have started around 8:50pm on Sunday night.

The cause of the inferno was not immediately clear, but an eyewitness claimed on X, formerly Twitter, ‘the warehouse next to Tiny Rebel brewery in Rogestone has just gone completely up in flames’.

A South Wales Fire and Rescue spokesperson said firefighters are still ‘trying to get to grips’ with the blaze.

Police said the fire started at 8:50pm this evening

Gwent police cordoned off nearby streets and urged people to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for the police said: ‘We received a report of a fire at a commercial premises on Wern Industrial Estate, Chartist Drive, Rogerstone at around 20.50pm on Sunday 14 January.

‘Officers have attended in support of colleagues from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service to assist traffic access for fire appliances and to maintain cordons to keep the public safe.

Tiny Rebel posted on X shortly before 11pm to confirm that the brewery was ‘fine’.

‘There has been a major fire break out in the building adjacent to our brewery,’ a statement read.

‘The fire is currently being dealt with by the [heroes] at South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

‘Fortunately the brewery is fine and is currently untouched by the blaze.

‘Please remain [away] from the area while the Fire Service [deals] with the incident.’

Brad Cummings, founder of the brewery, told MailOnline: ‘This is a very devastating incident for the business on the Wern Industrial Estate and residents in the area.’
