SCIENTISTS have tested Nivea’s £2 cream against a posh £155 one after shoppers dubbed it “the same in a different pot”.
Nivea’s Creme can be bought in supermarkets across the country, while La Mer’s Crème de la Mer Moisturizing Cream has to be purchased through beauty retailers.
A 50ml of Nivea Creme will set you back £2.49 in Asda, while La Mer’s posh cream is £155 for less product at 30ml.
A 500ml tub would set you back an eye-watering £2,040.
Irish broadcaster and DJ Annie Mac raved about Nivea’s creams as dead ringers for La Mer products last month.
So, scientists at Regimen Lab decided to figure out just how close the formulas are.

“We actually tested this in our lab,” they said. “First, we took a look at the two formulas side-by-side.
“Crème de la Mer has the same base as Nivea, but the main difference is the fermented algae broth.
“It also has some additional botanical oils, seed powders and vitamins.
“We then tested their relative hydrating and water loss reduction abilities. We measured our equal amounts of each cream.”

According to the scientists, the Nivea cream is slightly more hydrating – scoring a 12 point improvement, while the La Mer luxury cream scored 11.
“The increase in skin hydration between the two creams was almost identical,” they said.
That means you can save yourself hundreds, or even thousands, of pounds in pursuit of supple skin thanks to Nivea.
The Nivea Creme is “the original moisturiser for the whole family”.
“This iconic product provides the skin with all the protective care it needs to stay soft and supple,” formulators said.
“The original dry skin cream for hands, body, and face intensively moisturises and soothes the skin leaving it soft and smooth.”
“Our iconic moisturiser is enriched with Eucerit, a formula which provides the skin with all the protective care it needs to stay soft.”
