Double-decker bus crash in central London leaves one in hospital: Shocking pictures reveal damage after driver smashed into building near Tottenham Court Road station

A double-decker bus has crashed into a building near Tottenham Court Road Station in central London. 

Police, ambulance and fire crews raced to the scene just after 10am today after a yellow bus appears to have driven front on into a shop front between Costa Coffee and All Bar One on New Oxford Street. 

One person is in hospital following the crash while another person was also injured but discharged by paramedics at the scene. 

Images posted on social media show the front of the bus buried in the wall of the shop front, with broken glass spread across the pavement. 

The bus is pictured surrounded by several ambulances and fire engines, with firefighters also seen examining the extent of the damage from the street.

A large cordon has been put in place, with a number of road closures in place to divert traffic away from the scene. 

Mark Arby, a passer by who saw the aftermath of the crash, told the Metro: ‘There was a lot of broken glass on the road and pavement.

‘The bus itself looked okay, not much damage; the front of the building seemed to have gotten the worst of the impact.’

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: ‘Firefighters are at the scene of a road traffic collision on New Oxford Street in Soho.

‘One double decker bus collided into the front of a building. One man left the bus before the Brigade’s arrival and is being assessed on scene by London Ambulance Service crews. 

‘There are currently no further reports of injuries. Road closures are in place and people are advised to avoid the area at this time.

‘The Brigade was called at 10:11. Two fire engines and two fire and rescue units from Soho, Euston and Battersea fire stations are at the scene.’

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 10:16hrs on Tuesday, 5 March to reports that a bus had collided with a pub in New Oxford Street, WC1. Officers responded. There were no reports of any injuries.’

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 10:10am today (5 March) to reports of a road traffic collision on New Oxford Street, WC1A.

‘We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a cycle paramedic, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART). Our first paramedic arrived on scene in approximately five minutes.

‘We treated two people. We took one patient to hospital and discharged the other at the scene.’
